Lilith is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually work to improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards to ensure we provide equal access to all users.

Conformance Status

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.

Accessibility Features

Lilith includes the following accessibility features:

• Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard. We support skip-to-content links and logical tab order throughout the application.
• Screen reader support: Semantic HTML, ARIA labels, live regions, and proper heading hierarchy ensure compatibility with assistive technologies.
• Reduced motion: Users who prefer reduced motion can enable this preference via the accessibility panel. Animations and transitions are minimized or removed.
• High contrast mode: A high-contrast theme is available for users who need increased visual distinction between elements.
• Adjustable text size: Font sizes can be increased through the accessibility settings without breaking layouts.
• Focus indicators: Clear, visible focus indicators are provided on all interactive elements.
• Color independence: Information is never conveyed solely through color. Icons, text labels, and patterns supplement color-coded elements.
• Touch target sizes: Interactive elements meet minimum touch target sizes (44x44 CSS pixels) for motor accessibility.

Domain-Specific Accessibility

• Tara (Meditation): Audio content includes volume controls, timer displays use both visual and auditory cues, and guided sessions provide text alternatives.
• Veritas (Information): Articles support reader mode with adjustable typography. Images include descriptive alt text. Tables are properly structured for screen readers.
• Nyx (Night Sky): Sky maps include text descriptions of celestial objects. Interactive visualizations have keyboard alternatives and screen reader descriptions.
• Arete (Growth): Charts and progress visualizations include text summaries. Form inputs have associated labels and error descriptions.
• Nisaba (Study): Source passages support adjustable typography and line spacing. Comparative-text panels are linearised for screen readers. Citation footnotes are keyboard-navigable and announced as references rather than inline decorations.
• Metis (Learning): Course paths, tutoring loops, and assessments expose every step as semantic headings. Mastery-state changes are announced via a live region. Interactive prompts include keyboard-only paths in addition to any drag, hover, or pointer affordances.

Known Limitations

While we strive for comprehensive accessibility, some content may have limitations:

• Interactive sky maps in Nyx may have reduced functionality with screen readers due to the visual nature of astronomical data
• Some third-party embedded content may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards
• PDF documents generated by the platform may have varying levels of accessibility

We are actively working to address these limitations and welcome feedback on areas where we can improve.

Testing

We test for accessibility using a combination of automated tools (axe-core, Lighthouse), manual testing with screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA), and keyboard-only navigation testing. We conduct periodic audits and address issues as they are identified.
